Article 23 Title 27 Mined Land Reclamation |
| Project is Located: | in Walworth in Wayne County. | |
Project Description: The applicant proposes to modify the existing mining permit and mined land use plan for a 167 acre dolomite/shale bedrock quarry located on a 445 acre parcel in the Town of Walworth, Wayne County. The modification request seeks approval to mine the existing 167 acre Life of Mine to an elevation of 325 feet above mean sea level (amsl). The mine operates as a drill and blast surface excavation of dolomitic and shale bedrock. Shot rock is excavated by mechanical equipment standard for this type of mining operation and materials are then transported to an aggregate processing facility currently located within the mine. The increase in depth of the quarry will not cause any additional change in the nature of the mining operation at this facility. Final reclamation will restore the site to an open water surface (159 acres) with a final surface elevation of from 490 to 495 ft. amsl. Above water reclamation will include sloping and grading the upper bench to a minimum of 3 feet below the water surface, replacement of stockpiled topsoil and reseeding with an approved USDA NRCS seed mixture. The reviewed life of mine is 167 acres. The project is located off Atlantic Avenue in the Town of Walworth, Wayne County. The parcel is bounded to the south by Atlantic Avenue (Rte. 286), the east by Lewis Road, the north by Plank Road, and the west by Tiffany Road. Application materials are available for public review and comment at the Regional Office of NYS DEC. |
