ENB - REGION 8 NOTICES

Public Notice

Region 8 - The Department of Environmental Conservation has determined that the Registry of Inactive Hazardous Waste Disposal Sites in New York State needs to be amended to delete site number 859011, known as the Williamson Landfill Site. This site is located in the Town of Williamson in the County of Wayne and is located at Pound Road. The reason for deletion is:

Other than the characteristic concentrated sulfuric acid residue in the two drums that have been removed, no hazardous waste has been identified on-site. Further, analytical data on groundwater, site soils, surface water, sediment and leachate is consistent with a municipal landfill. The town has retained an engineering firm and is preparing to properly close the landfill. Due to the lack of hazardous waste, the site should be removed from the registry and monitored after closure under the Solid Waste Program.

Written comments on this proposed deletion are welcome and should be sent to:

Project Manager: Cynthia A. Whitfield

NYSDEC
Division of Environmental Remediation
Bureau of Hazardous Site Control
Room 252
50 Wolf Road

All written comments must be received by October 21, 2000. A summary of all written comments will be assembled and will be available for viewing at our Region 8 headquarters in Avon, New York.
