NOTICE: Informational meetings and a legislative public hearing will be held to provide the public with an opportunity to understand and comment on the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation's (NYSDEC) proposal to revise 6 NYCRR Parts 855 through 859, 861, 862, 864, and 935, the Lower Hudson River and Upper East River-Long Island Sound Drainage Basins, to protect water quality within those waters consistent with their best usages.
Area Impacted: These regulatory changes would, if approved, impact certain surface waters in the named Drainage Basins in Columbia, Dutchess, Greene, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Sullivan, Ulster, and Westchester Counties.

Purpose: The Public Information Meetings will include a presentation outlining the basic concepts of water quality classifications, the administrative process used by NYSDEC to amend classifications, and the opportunities for public input and participation in the process. Persons attending will have the opportunity to ask questions of NYSDEC staff who will be present.
Statements: Oral and written statements may be submitted at the hearing sessions. Written statements may also be submitted to Colbath A. Tucker, P.E. before or after the hearing sessions at the address above, but should be postmarked on or before October 25, 2000 to ensure they receive full consideration in the development of the final reclassification proposal.
Accessibility and Interpreter Services: The hearing sites are accessible to persons with impaired mobility. Interpreter services are free to deaf persons provided a written request is postmarked on or before September 15, 2000 and is received by Colbath A. Tucker, P.E.
