Public Notice

The Department of Environmental Conservation has determined that the Registry of Inactive Hazardous Waste Disposal Sites in New York State needs to be amended to delete site number 130076, known as the Ranco Wiping Cloth Site. This site is located in the Village of Freeport, Town of Hempstead, in the County of Nassau, and is located at 409 North Main Street. The reason for deletion is:

An Interim Remedial Measure (IRM) has been completed at this site. Contaminated soils and dry well sediments have been removed to the satisfaction of the DEC. Confirmatory sampling revealed that all hazardous waste has essentially been removed. The results of groundwater sampling revealed that the groundwater has returned to applicable groundwater standards. Residual contamination remaining on-site has been determined to be of an inconsequential nature. There are no known receptors using the groundwater near this site. Based on these findings, the delisting of this site is appropriate.

Public Hearing

Suffolk County - A hearing will be held to receive unsworn statements from the public regarding the request by Stuart Goldsmith, 8 Salt Meadow Lane, East Patchogue, NY, for re-issuance of a permit which was effective from 1989 to 1999, for maintenance dredging of a 10 foot by 460 foot area located seaward of an existing functional bulkhead, to a depth of 3 feet at mean low water. The hearing will be held at the Patchogue Village Hall, 14 Baker Street, Patchogue, NY, at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, October 2, 2000. Written comments may be filed with the Office of Hearings and Mediation Services at New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, Building 40, SUNY Campus, Stony Brook, NY 11890-2356.

Notice of Acceptance of Draft EIS and Public Hearing

Nassau County - The Village of Old Westbury Board of Trustees, as lead agency, has accepted a Draft Environmental Impact Statement on the proposed Village of Old Westbury Zoning Code Revisions. A public hearing on the Draft EIS will be held on September 18, 2000 at 7:00 p.m. at the Wheatley High School, 11 Bacon Road, Old Westbury, NY 11568. Written comments on the Draft EIS will be accepted until September 28, 2000. The action involves the Village Board of Trustees' consideration of amendments to the Village's Zoning Code to address the following issues: (1) modification of current development controls for schools and places of worship; (2) restrictions for driveway curb-cuts for single-family lots; (3) modifications to the Village's building volume regulations; (4) application of bulk and dimensional standards in the C Residence District to include a 10-acre minimum lot size for residences; (5) regulations controlling the conversion of large estates to residential subdivisions; and (6) amendment of the Village Zoning Map to change the zoning district classification for the southeastern portion of the Village from B-4 Residence District (four-acre minimum lot size) to BB Residence District (two-acre minimum lot size). The project is located in the Village of Old Westbury, Nassau County.

Nassau County - The Village of Kings Point Board of Trustees, as lead agency, has accepted a Draft Environmental Impact Statement on the proposed Chabad of Great Neck. A public hearing on the Draft Environmental Impact Statement will be held on October 16, 2000 at 8:50 p.m. at the Village Hall of the Village of Kings Point. The action involves construction of a religious institution. The project is located at 400 East Shore Road in the Village of Kings Point, NY.
