The Town of Champlain has requested approval to upgrade stoney Point Road by raising the elevation of the road to the 102 foot elevation and by adding shot rock to the lakeside portion of the road to prevent erosion. The applicant, New England Waste Services of New York, has applied for approval for a modification to their permit to allow the construction and operation of an overlay sanitary landfill between the East Side Development area (currently under construction) and the closed, unlined landfill. The application states that this proposal will significantly increase the life of the existing facility with minimal impacts. The 175,000 tons/year limit allowed by the existing permit will not change. The application and supporting documents are available for review by scheduling an appointment with the contact person identified.

The applicant proposes a stream bank stabilization project on Allen Brook, at East Road, on the Walter King property. The project will involve the removal of 90 tons of material from a section of eroding stream bank, and the placement of 75 tons of rock rip-rap over 30 tons of gravel to stabilize the bank.

Project proposes to excavate approximately 5600 cubic yards of sand fine silt and organics from the bottom of Crandall Pond located in Crandall Park in the City of Glens Falls NY. The excavation would return the pond to its 1963 water depth.

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) proposes the implementation of additional Corrective Measures (CM) at lands adjacent to the Hudson River and down river of the Ciba/Hercules Main Plant Site. A draft Statement of Basis has been prepared to document the procedures undertaken to arrive at the proposed CM. DEC intends to issue a permit modification for the removal of contaminated soil/sediment from portions of a backwater section of the Hudson River ("Ponded Backwater Area" [PBA]), a former river channel. Ciba/Hercules has agreed to implement the CM to address DEC's concern that cadmium levels in parts of the PBA shallow soil and sediment pose a potential threat to terrestrial and aquatic life. The proposed CM involves removal of approximately 15,000 cubic yards of material (to a depth of 1 to 2 feet) from a 5.4 acre portion of the PBA, for disposal at the adjacent Main Plant Site approved disposal area. The excavated area will be backfilled with clean soil for revegetation. The backwater area extends approximately 2300 linear feet, parallel to Lower Warren Street on either side of the Warren/Washington County line. This Department initiated modification is to the existing Hazardous Waste Management permit issued to Ciba/Hercules.

The project is a continuation of channel clearing and deepening of the Juniper Swamp Brook. It is proposed that an additional 850 feet of the Juniper Swamp Brook (H-301-22, Class Ct) be cleared to allow for better drainage.
