Name of Volunteer: Keyspan Energy

Site Name and No.: Keyspan Glenwood Landing Water Tank Site #V00227-1

Project Location: Region 1, Nassau County, Town of North Hempstead, Village of Glenwood

Project Description: The site is located in a mixed residential/industrial area. Access to the site is restricted by perimeter fencing. On-site soil contamination is attributed to the removal of lead paint from an elevated water tank. Soil samples have delineated the areal extent of soil contamination. Surficial soil will be removed to a depth of 12 inches. Contaminated soil and paint chips will be treated utilizing an on-site ex-situ combined total lead extraction and TCLP lead stabilization process. Stabilized paint chips will be containerized and disposed of at an approved treatment, storage and disposal facility. Contaminated soil will be treated until total lead content is less than 500 parts per million. Treated soil will be returned to the site as fill material.

Comment Period: The project work plan is available for review at the location below. Written comments on this action will be accepted for 30 days following the date of this notice. Written comments expressing objection or opposition to the project must explain the basis of that opposition and identify the specific grounds which could lead the Department to impose significant changes to the work plan. No formal response is made to comments received, but, as a result of comments the Department may re-evaluate and make revisions to the work plan.
