Schoharie County - The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, as lead agency has determined that the proposed Site Preparation; Clear-cut Schoharie RA#4; Stands A-3, 10, 20, 37 and 40 will not have a significant adverse environmental impact. The action involves the removal of 63 acres of red pine and spruce which are 65 years old. The 63 acres of clear-cuts are in five separate stands scattered over the State forest. This is necessitated by the loss of vigor of the red pine due to shallow soils. The impeded growth makes the trees susceptible to attack by insects and fungi which are causing further decline in the trees and some mortality and blowdown. To avoid a complete loss of the stand and prevent hazardous conditions from developing, the 63 acres will be clear-cut. The project is located approximately six miles east of Summit, Town of Fulton.
