|Notice of Acceptance of Draft EIS and Public Hearing|
Queens County - The New York City School Construction Authority (SCA), as lead agency has accepted a draft Environmental Impact Statement on the proposed Glen Oaks School Campus – Queens (Public School 266-Q, Intermediate School 208-Q, and the High School of Teaching Professions). A public hearing on the draft EIS will be held on March 20,2000 at 7:00 PM at the Benjamin Cardoza High School, 5700 223rd Street in Bayside, Queens. Written comments on the draft EIS will be accepted until March 31, 2000. The action involves the site selection, acquisition, acceptance of construction funding, and construction of a 704-seat primary school serving grades pre-kindergarten through 5 in Community School District (CSD) 26, a 1,002-seat intermediate school serving grades 6 through 8 in CSD 29, and a 1,153-seat high school serving grades 9 through 12 in the Queens High School Division.
The proposed school campus would be located on Lot 60 of Block 7870 on a block bound by Grand Central Parkway to the north, Commonwealth Boulevard to the east, Union Turnpike to the south, and the Cross Island Parkway to the west in the Borough of Queens. The approximately 10.3-acre project site is currently associated with the Creedmoor Psychiatric Center. While the SCA has not yet finalized the layout and design plans for the school campus, it is most likely that the proposed campus would comprise an approximately 85,000-gross-square-foot (gsf) primary school, an approximately 105,000-gsf intermediate school, and an approximately 145,000-gsf high school. In addition, two playground areas would be created. An existing building located on the project site (Building 51) would be adapted for reuse as the elementary school. Construction would begin in 2001 with the new campus ready for occupancy in 2003. The project is located at 78-70 Grand Central Parkway North, Queens.
