Project Description:
The applicant proposes to develop and operate a 65.9 acre sand and gravel mine on lands owned by Savona Sand and Gravel LLC in the Town of Bath. The mine site is located east of Robie Road, approximately 4,000 ft. north of the State Rt.415 intersection. The mine will operate as a traditional surface excavation of the Alton and Howard fine sandy loams which are the predominate soil types on the site. Excavation will be both above and below the local water table. Maximum depth of mining will be +/-30 ft. Processing of mined material will be by a wash plant and portable screens and crusher. Final reclamation will restore the site to re-graded, revegetated land and a +/-25.7 acre open water pond.

Project Description:
The Department has made a tentative determination to approve this application for a new permit for a discharge of an average of 30,000 gallons per day of water treatment plant backwash water from the proposed new Village of Sodus Lake Water Treatment Plant to an unnamed tributary of Lake Ontario (Ont.-87). The new plant will replace the existing village water treatment plant and will be located directly south of the existing plant on Maple Avenue Extension. A draft permit specifying effluent limitations and monitoring requirements is available for review at the NYSDEC Region 8 Office.
