Project Description:
 The applicant proposes undertaking the Fire Island Interim Project for storm damage protection. This is a 6-year action entailing construction of a beach fill and dune system along various segments of Fire Island's Atlantic shoreline (Suffolk County) totaling approximately 11.3 miles of its 31 mile length. Project consists of one initial sand fill of approximately 7.7 million cubic yards and one renourishment comprised of approximately 2.8 million cubic yards. Fill would be obtained from a nearby offshore borrow site. A federal DEIS has been prepared by the Army Corps pursuant to NEPA and is on file. The Corps is accepting comments on the Draft Decision Document and DEIS until January 25, 2000.
