|Public Information Meeting|
The New York City Department of Environmental Protection (NYCDEP), will conduct a public information meeting regarding an environmental site investigation of Barretto Point.
The City of New York has been approved to receive financial assistance under the 1996 New York State Clean Water/Clean Air Bond Act to conduct a site investigation of the property known as Barretto Point, located in the Hunts Point community of the Bronx. The site investigation will determine the nature and extent of any possible environmental contamination at the property. The objectives of the site investigation are to determine the presence and nature of any subsurface or surface soil contamination and the presence and nature of any groundwater contamination
At the conclusion of this site investigation field work, a Site Investigation Report (SI) will be prepared and will form the basis of the Remedial Alternatives Report (RAR). The RAR will evaluate possible actions to remediate the site for proposed end uses as a waterfront park and enhancements for the Hunts Point Water Pollution Control Plant. Based on the results of the SI/RAR, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) will approve remediation in a document known as the Proposed Remedial Action Plan (PRAP). Following consideration of public comments on the PRAP, NYSDEC will approve the method of site clean-up and state this method in a document known as the Record of Decision (ROD).
The public information meeting concerning the Barretto Point site will be held on Thursday, November 18th, from 7:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. in the Auditorium of P.S. 48, located at 1290 Spofford Avenue in the Bronx.
