Tree Removal for Bog River/Otter Point Trails Project

The project will improve access and facilities in the Horseshoe Lake Wild Forest. The project involves constructing new facilities and adopting an existing ski trail system near the Bog River. Construction will include 2 parking areas, 2 trail registers, an information kiosk, an accessible picnic table and an accessible privy. A 0.2 mile accessible trail will be constructed from a parking area to Goodman Bridge. Trees within 15 feet of the bridge abutments will be cut, to allow for maintenance. New facilities will be built to ADA standards. Ninety trees have been identified by a forester and marked for removal to provide room for facility construction and improvements. This project is included in the Amendment to the Bog River Unit Management Plan adopted in 2014. Tree cutting will be in compliance with Lands and Forests Policy 91-2 on Cutting, Removal or Destruction of Trees and Other Vegetation on Forest Preserve Lands.

The Horseshoe Lake Wild Forest is located in the Town of Piercefield, New York.
