Project Description:

Applicant proposes to remove and replace, in-place, 80 linear feet of existing bulkhead, with navy-style bulkhead, 18 inches higher, and construct 20 linear feet of new bulkhead, below mean high water, to close an existing 20' x 29' boat slip. Also proposed is maintenance dredging the area up to 10 feet seaward of the bulkhead, to a maximum depth of -4 feet mean low water. The resulting 25 cubic yards of dredge spoil and an additional 130 cubic yards of clean fill will be used to backfill the bulkhead and the boat slip. The proposal also includes two 6-foot bulkhead returns and replacement of a 4-foot parallel capping boardwalk. The project is located on Dug Canal in West Islip, Town of Islip, Suffolk County.

SEQR Lead Agency: None Designated

State Historic Preservation Act (SHPA) Determination:

Cultural resource lists and maps have been checked. The proposed activity is not in an area of identified archaeological sensitivity and no known registered, eligible or inventoried archaeological sites or historic structures were identified or documented for the project location. No further review in accordance with SHPA is required.

Coastal Management:

This project is located in a Coastal Management area and is subject to the Waterfront Revitalization and Coastal Resources Act.

Project Description:

The Department has made a tentative determination to approve this application for a new permit for an existing discharge of 6,000 gallons per day of treated laundromat wastewater to groundwater from a primary treatment plant at the applicant's facility located at 2745 Peconic Lane, Peconic, NY. The applicant is currently operating a laundromat. Refer to this application by application number listed above and SPDES number, NY0279897.

The proposed discharge is located within an area designated as a sole source aquifer. The following water purveyors have been identified as having service areas located within a 3‑mile radius of the applicant's facility: Suffolk County Water Authority.
