Negative Declaration

Suffolk County - The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation (NYS OPRHP), as lead agency, has determined that the proposed Phase III Demolitions will not have a significant adverse environmental impact. The action involves a proposal by the NYS OPRHP for the abatement and demolition of Building 40 and Buildings 18.1, 18.2 and 18.3 at the former Kings Park Psychiatric Center in Nissequogue River State Park. Due to separate fire incidents and the presence of hazardous materials, these structures are considered unsafe. Existing disturbed areas will be used for temporary facilities and soil stockpiles for a total project site of 6.72 acres, although no more than 5 acres will be disturbed at any one time. Site restoration will include grading and planting with a seed mix; inert Construction and Demolition (C&D) debris may be used for fill but will be buried at least 2 foot below grade. The project is located in the Nissequogue River State Park on Saint Johnland Road in Kings Park, Town of Smithtown, New York.
