Notice of Public Comment Period

Draft Best Management Practices (BMPs) for Design and Layout of Primitive Tent Sites in the Adirondack Forest Preserve

The project involves a proposal by New York State Department of Environmental Conservation to adopt BMPs to address roadside camping as it pertains to primitive tent sites outside of Intensive Use Areas. This includes walk-in sites, and walk-in sites with a single-lane parking area. These BMPs also address large groups, camping permits, size limits, improvements, and regulation changes for primitive tent sites. Additionally, this document provides the accessibility standards that apply to primitive tent sites.

Comments are welcome and will be accepted by the contact person until January 22, 2018. The draft BMPs are posted on the NYS DEC website at: http://www.dec.ny.gov/lands/111867.html.

The BMPs will cover Adirondack Forest preserve lands in the New York State Counties of Clinton, Essex, Franklin, Fulton, Hamilton, Saratoga, Warren and Washington in NYS DEC - Region 5 and Herkimer, Lewis, Oneida and St Lawrence in NYS DEC - Region 6.

Tree Removal for Replacement of the Deer Pond Road Bridge

The action involves the cutting of 5 trees for replacement of an existing public motor vehicle bridge over the West Branch of the Goodnow River. The construction project is located in the Essex Chain Lakes Management Complex Area in the Town of Newcomb, New York and is included in the approved 2016 Essex Chain Lakes Management Complex Area Unit Management Plan/Final Environmental Impact Statement. Tree cutting will be done in compliance with Lands & Forests Policy 91-2 on Cutting, Removal or Destruction of Trees and Other Vegetation on Forest Preserve Lands.

Tree Removal for Whiteface Propane Storage Expansion

The action involves the cutting of six (6) trees to expand the propane storage for the expansion of the Bear Den Lodge. The construction project is located in the Whiteface Mountain Intensive Use Area in the Town of Wilmington, New York and is included in the approved 2006 Whiteface Mountain Intensive Use Area Unit Management Plan/Final Environmental Impact Statement. Tree cutting will be done in compliance with Lands & Forests Policy 91-2 on Cutting, Removal or Destruction of Trees and Other Vegetation on Forest Preserve Lands.

Notice of Acceptance of Final GEIS

Saratoga County - The Town of Waterford Town Board, as lead agency, has accepted a Final Generic Environmental Impact Statement on the proposed Adoption of the 2016 Town of Waterford Comprehensive Plan. The Final GEIS is available from the Town of Waterford Town Hall, 65 Broad Street, Waterford, NY 12188 and on line at: www.town.waterford.ny.us.

The action involves an update of the Town of Waterford's Comprehensive Plan. The draft plan includes documentation on the current resources in the Town of Waterford and establishes a vision, goals and recommendations to guide development in the future. This plan was developed pursuant to Town Law 272-a. The draft plan was developed with significant public input gathered through public visioning workshops, public comment, and steering committee meetings. The plan includes a detailed description and mapping of environmental resources and identifies the issues, opportunities and challenges facing each. Once adopted, the plan will guide zoning law updates, economic development programs, parks and recreation enhancements, historic preservation initiatives, waterfront protections, and Local Waterfront Revitalization Programs (LWRP) designed to enhance quality of life in the Town of Waterford, promote appropriate growth, and ensure a high quality of life for all residents. The project is located throughout the Town of Waterford, New York.
