Project Description:

The applicant proposes to expand again, for the purpose of extracting sand & gravel, an already permitted 138 acre 150' deep lake to a 182.5 acre 160' deep lake. Upon cessation of mining, the project area will be rehabilitated to create an ecological habitat pursuant to the Wetland Rehabilitation Workplan of August 2005 and the lake will be made available for public fishing access. The project is located at 416 Miller Place-Yaphank Road in Miller Place, Town of Brookhaven, Suffolk County.

Project Description:

The applicant proposes to connect two currently independent finger piers at their Greenport ferry terminal with the installation of new bulkheading in order to increase the stability and security of the structures and improve public safety. Two sections of the proposed bulkheading will be located seaward of apparent high water. Placement of fill behind the new bulkhead sections will result in the permanent loss of approximately 985 square feet of tidal wetlands known as littoral zone (LZ). As mitigation, the applicant is also proposing wetland creation at a 3:1 ratio at a separate location. The project is located at the end of Third Street, Greenport, Town of Southold, Suffolk County, SCTM# 1001-6-4-14.4.
