Project Description:

Install and operate a temporary well point dewatering system to facilitate the installation of a force main pipe under Meadowbrook State Parkway in Hempstead, NY. The dewatering system will consist of four (4) deep wells installed to 40 feet below grade and will be equipped with four (4) 700 gallons per minute pumps and ninety five (95) well points installed to 22 feet below grade equipped with two (2) 600 gallons per minute pumps. Water from dewatering activities on the eastern side of Meadowbrook State Parkway will discharge into Mullener Pond and water from the western side of Meadowbrook State Parkway will discharge into the wetlands. All water shall pass through two 18,000 gallon sized settling tanks and filter bags before discharging into both locations. Settling tank must allow for a retention time of at least 20 minutes. The maximum discharge shall not exceed 5,760,000 gallons per day and the duration of the dewatering operation shall be for 1 month. The project is located in the area below Jerusalem Avenue/Meadowbrook State Parkway overpass and northwest of Mullener Pond, Town of Hempstead, Nassau County.

State Environmental Quality Review (SEQR) Determination:

Project is an Unlisted Action and will not have a significant impact on the environment. A Negative Declaration is on file. A coordinated review was not performed.

SEQR Lead Agency: None Designated

State Historic Preservation Act (SHPA) Determination:

Cultural resource lists and maps have been checked. The proposed activity is not in an area of identified archaeological sensitivity and no known registered, eligible or inventoried archaeological sites or historic structures were identified or documented for the project location. No further review in accordance with SHPA is required.

Coastal Management:

This project is not located in a Coastal Management area and is not subject to the Waterfront Revitalization and Coastal Resources Act.

Opportunity for Public Comment:

Comments on this project must be submitted in writing to the Contact Person no later than May 18, 2017.
