Project Title: SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry

Location: North side of NYS Route 28N in the Town of Newcomb, New York.

For Adirondack Park Agency: Comment Period Ends: March 16, 2017

Project Description: The action involves construction of a 6,000 square foot maintenance building to serve SUNY Environmental Science and Forestry's Adirondack Ecological Center and other uses on the Huntington Wildlife Forest property. The project involves Resource Management lands and a State highway critical environmental area (CEA). The structure will be served by an individual on-site wastewater treatment system and well, underground utilities and an emergency generator. There will be parking areas surrounding the new building and approximately 1.5 acres will be disturbed for construction of the project. A stormwater pollution prevention plan has been developed for the project and will be implemented. A 75 foot wide undisturbed vegetative buffer will remain between the development and NYS Route 28N.

Negative Declaration

Essex County - The Village of Lake Placid Board of Trustees, as lead agency, has determined that the proposed Main Street Reconstruction Project, Sanitary Sewer and Stormwater Management Improvements will not have a significant adverse environmental impact. The action involves the reconstruction of Main Street within the Village of Lake Placid business district to include:

  • Storrnwater management to protect Mirror Lake using green infrastructure and storrnwater runoff abatement.
  • Sanitary sewer improvements.
  • Water main replacement and upgrades.
  • Parking management to reduce on-street parking by constructing a central parking garage.
  • Create a safe, pleasant and pedestrian friendly Main Street environment.

The proposed improvements will protect and enhance the economic viability of Lake Placid as a tourism and resort center into the future.

The project is located along Main Street (Route 86) in the Village of Lake Placid, New York.
