Project is Located:

Herkimer County

Project Description:

The Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) has prepared a draft permit and has made a tentative determination to issue a renewal to State Pollutant Discharge Elimination Systems (SPDES) permit (NY#0036528) for the surface discharge of treated wastewater to the Mohawk River, a class B water. The facility has a design flow of 6.1 mgd and discharges treated sewage through Outfall 001. Treatment at the facility consists of settling tanks, aeration basins with mechanical aerators, final clarifiers, and chlorine contact tank. Sludge is processed using gravity thickeners and a vertical gravity belt press. Processed sludge is hauled off site.

DEC proposes to incorporate the following modifications to this permit: Sampling requirements, frequency and temperature unit changes for specific parameters; Limit and disinfection season changed; Action levels and mass limits added and/or adjusted for specific parameters; Monitoring requirements were added for specific parameters; Outfall 003 has been removed; Language for use of most up to date sufficiently sensitive EPA approved methods for testing has been added; The permit includes updated forms and the latest general conditions. Details of changes are specified in the draft permit and fact sheet.
