Negative Declaration

Broome County - The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation (NYS OPRHP), as lead agency, has determined that the proposed Chenango Valley State Park - Beach Area Reconstruction will not have a significant adverse environmental impact. The action involves the reconstruction of the beach area on Chenango Lake in the Chenango Valley State Park to better serve the public. The project generally includes structural renovations and improvements to the existing man-made beach area and surrounding walkways, replacement of the existing beach area circulation system and water supply line, and installation of a new splash park play area adjacent to the existing bathhouse at the beach. The children's splash pad will be served by water from the Park's well water system. Beach reconstruction will consist of redesigning the swim area to replace an engineered shoreline wall with a more natural sand beach and transition area. Existing sand and underlying pavement will be removed for regrading and installation of water circulation components prior to replacement of new pavement and cleaned sand. In addition, seasonal shoreline dock rentals will be installed for public boat rentals. Ongoing maintenance will consist of the seasonal removal of the sand, which will be dried and cleaned and stockpiled over winter, and then replaced prior to each swimming season. The project is located in the Chenango Valley State Park at 153 State Park Road in Chenango Forks, New York.
