Albany County - The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYS DEC), as lead agency, has determined that the proposed Adoption of Habitat Management Plan (HMP) for Margaret Burke Wildlife Management Area (WMA) will not have a significant adverse environmental impact. The action involves the adoption of a HMP for Margaret Burke WMA to guide habitat management on this area to benefit wildlife and facilitate wildlife-dependent recreation for a ten year time period. This plan also incorporates aspects of the NYS DEC's Young Forest Initiative, which aims to establish a minimum of 10% of the forested acreage on WMAs as young forest over the next 10 years. Young forest is an important part of the forested landscape, but has been declining over the past 50 years along with the wildlife that depend on this habitat. This project is located at Margaret Burke Wildlife Management Area in the Town of Knox, New York
