Notice of Availability of State Funds

Electronic Waste Assistance Grants

The 2016/17 State budget included $3 million from the Environmental Protection Fund in one-time funding intended to assist municipalities with recent unexpected costs of collection and recycling electronic waste (e-waste). Applications are being accepted during October of 2016 (October 3, 2016 - October 31, 2016).

Eligible Applicants:

Municipalities, defined as: Counties, Cities, Towns, Villages, Local Public Authorities, Local Public Benefit Corporations, School Districts, Supervisory Districts, and Improvement Districts, Native American Tribes or Nations Residing in New York State, or any combination of these.

Description of Eligible Projects:

These grants can partially reimburse actual expenses incurred during April 1, 2016 to March 31, 2017 for recycling of covered e-waste such as computers, computer peripherals, televisions, small scale servers, and small electronic equipment. This program provides up to 50 percent reimbursement to municipalities, with reimbursement limited to no more than $2 million per project.

Consistent with the Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) State Assistance Program, applications are being accepted during October of 2016 (October 3, 2016 - October 31, 2016). Available funding will be divided among those applications received during October. If there are insufficient funds to provide 50 percent reimbursement to all applications received during October 2016, New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYS DEC) may lower the percentage of funding to be provided to each municipality. This lowered percentage will be the same for all municipalities that submit an application during October 2016.

If there is any funding remaining after the eligible October applications are approved, the remaining funds will be made available by NYS DEC for new applications received during January of 2017, until funds are exhausted.
