Permit(s) Applied for:

Article 15 Title 15 Water Withdrawal Non-public
Article 23 Title 27 Mined Land Reclamation

Project is Located:

Butler, Wayne County

Project Description:

Proposal to modify operations at the existing Bond's Sand & Gravel Pit located at 4821 State Rt 89 in the Town of Butler, NY. An aggregate washing plant is proposed to wash fines from sand and gravel at the facility. As part of this modification, the washing plant may withdraw water up to 1,720 gallons per minute from an on-site pond. The operations would have an estimated maximum daily system capacity withdrawal rate of 1,238,400 gallons, which is based on continuous operation during a twelve hour work day. It is estimated that 1% of the pumping volume (approx. 310,000 gallons per month) will be lost to evaporation and aggregate wetting, with the balance of the water returning to the pond for reuse. Previous on-site wash operations used a withdrawal rate of 300 gallons per minute. The new withdrawal rate triggers the need for a water withdrawal permit and modification of the mining permit.

Additionally, a mining permit modification is proposed to adjust the hours of operation. The proposed operational hours are Monday through Friday 7am to 7pm, and Saturday from 7am to 3pm. Currently, the facility is allowed operation Monday through Saturday, from 8am until 5pm. No mining operations are proposed on Sundays or holidays, and no increase in truck traffic volume is anticipated. Trucks would continue to access the site using Route 89.
