Schenectady County - The Schenectady Metroplex Development, as lead agency, has determined that the proposed Gateway Park Project will not have a significant adverse environmental impact. In 2012, the City of Schenectady developed a conceptual design to expand the existing .09 acre Liberty Park as Gateway Plaza. The construction design is currently moving forward for the project and construction is expected in the spring of 2017. The project will involve two phases but commutatively will remove the former one-way street Water Street at the existing southern border of the park; abate and demolish at least three non-historic building and all associated pavement and foundations; and construct an expanded park by grading, planting and making other hard-scape and entertainment improvements to create an approximately 2 acre park space. Improvements will be limited to new walkways and plazas, landscape features, lighting and other infrastructure enhancements that will not include or carefully limit the disturbance of archaeologically significant areas. The project is located at 12 State Street in the City of Schenectady, NY.
