Project Description:

The Department has made a tentative determination to approve this application for a modification of an existing discharge of 66,000 gallons per day of treated laundry wastewater to groundwater from a primary treatment plant at the applicant's facility located at 411 Horseblock Road, Farmingville, Town of Brookhaven, Suffolk County. The owner is currently operating a laundromat. Refer to this application by application number listed above and SPDES number, NY0267082. The proposed discharge is located within an area designated as a sole source aquifer. The following water purveyor has been identified as having service areas located within a 3‑mile radius of the applicant's facility: Suffolk County Water Authority.

A new treatment system is proposed which does not use a water treatment chemical utilized by the previous system. Therefore the permit will be modified to eliminate sampling for those chemical compounds.

Project Description:

The applicant proposes to construct one 20 inch by 10 inch diameter supply well approximately 130 feet deep and having a pumping capacity of 500 gallons per minute. This well is in the South Fork Low water supply system that serves most of the South Fork extending from Shinnecock Hills to Amagansett. The project is located at the Spring Close Highway well field located on the south side of the Long Island Railroad, 405 feet west of Spring Close Highway, Pantigo, Town of East Hampton, Suffolk County.
