Tree Cutting Notice at the Pillsbury Summit Helicopter Landing Zone Maintenance

The objective of this project is to remove trees that have encroached on the helicopter landing zone on the summit of Pillsbury Mountain. A previous flight mission was aborted in 2015 because the pilot did not have adequate clearance between the trees and the rotor blades to safely land the helicopter. One hundred seven trees have been identified by a forester and marked for removal to restore the landing zone to usable condition. This project is covered in the approved Unit Management Plan for the Jessup River Wild Forest. Tree cutting will be in compliance with the LF Policy 91-2 on Cutting, Removal or Destruction of Trees and Other Vegetation on Forest Preserve Lands.

The project is located in the Jessup River Wild Forest in the Town of Arietta, New York.
