Project Description:

Applicant proposes to perform maintenance dredging of approximately 90,000 cubic yards of sediment from the City of Ithaca Sixmile Creek Siltation Basin (6.5 acres). Basin will be drawn down and material will be removed through use of conventional mechanical excavation equipment including bulldozer, excavator, and scraper; and material will be trucked to one of two delineated sediment work areas located adjacent to the Basin for dewatering and screening.

Initial cycle will be a complete full-depth sediment removal effort across the entire Basin. Once complete, the City of Ithaca would move into a planned long term maintenance program. The forebay area (0.6 acres) will be excavated every two years to remove accumulated coarse material, estimated to yield approximately 5,800 cubic yards of material. The middle maintenance zone (2.8 acres) will be excavated every four years and excavation will result in approximately 35,000 cubic yards of material. The northern maintenance area (3.1 acres) will be excavated every 8 years, yielding approximately 40,000 cubic yards of dredged material.
