Project Description: Remedial Options Report Regarding Full Containment of Grumman Plume Released

In response to Chapter 543 of the Laws of 2014, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYS DEC) tasked one of its Engineering Consultants (HDR, Inc.) with developing and evaluating options to achieve hydraulic containment of the groundwater contamination associated with the Grumman Aerospace-Bethpage Facility in Bethpage New York. The report, called the Remedial Options Report for the Grumman Aerospace-Bethpage Facility, was recently completed and submitted to NYS DEC. The report includes estimates of the cost, scope, and timetable for 3 alternatives to contain the plume each project. The report is available at

Cultural resource lists and maps have been checked. No registered, eligible or inventoried archeological sites or historic structures were identified at the project location. No further review in accordance with SHPA is required.

Project Description:

The department has made a tentative determination to issue a SPDES permit for the discharge of 8,100 gallons per day of treated sanitary waste to the groundwater located at Indian Head Road, Kings Park, New York. The proposed discharge is located with an area designated as a sole source aquifer. The following public water purveyors have been identified as having service areas located within a three mile radius of the applicant's facility: 1) Suffolk County Water Authority. SPDES NY-0286800

Negative Declaration

Nassau County - The Town of Hempstead Town Board, as lead agency, has determined that the proposed Amendments to the Conceptual Master Plan for the Mitchel Field Mixed-Use (MFM) District and Site Plan Approval for the Memorial Sloan Kettering Regional Center (MSKRC) Project will not have a significant adverse environmental impact. The action involves the construction of an approximately 140,000 square foot building that would serve as an outpatient treatment and cancer research facility, as well as a 452 space, 133,940 square foot (excluding 33,485 square feet at grade level) parking garage and other accessory site improvements. The MSKRC project is a component of a larger approved Conceptual Master Plan for the Subject Premises in the MFM District. The Conceptual Master Plan provides for the future development of the Subject Premises with a total of 3,477,700 square feet of space composed of retail, restaurant, office and medical facility, recreation, convention center and hotel space.

Additionally, the Conceptual Master Plan provides for 104,304 square feet of public open space (including, but not limited to, a plaza accessible to the public), equal to or exceeding three percent (3%) of the land area of the Subject Premises after deduction of the area of the right-of-ways, including 85,617 square feet of open space on the Coliseum Parcel and 18,687 square feet of open space on the Marriott Parcel and Vacant Parcel.

The project is located in Uniondale in the unincorporated area of the Town of Hempstead and is part of a group of parcels comprising the MFM District which contain a total area of approximately 91 acres and which are currently improved with the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum and the Marriot Hotel and which are designated as Section 44, Block F, Lots 351, 411, 412 and 414 (Coliseum Parcel), Section 44, Block F, Lots 326 and 401 (Marriott Parcel) and Section 44, Block F, Lot 402 (Vacant Parcel) in the Town of Hempstead, New York.
