Project is Located:

Richmond, Ontario County

Project Description:

The NYSDEC, in cooperation with the US Fish & Wildlife Service, Ontario County Soil & Water Conservation District and the Nature Conservancy are proposing to restore the Honeoye Inlet within the NYSDEC Honeoye Inlet Wildlife Management Area to improve wildlife habitat and hydrologic function. The inlet was ditched and straightened to accommodate agricultural activities in the 1960's. Approximately 2,700 linear feet of stream will be restored to a more natural alignment within its floodplain. Additional ditches will be plugged to reduce the amount of sediment laden water coming off the valley hillsides. Several in-stream structures will be installed to control the stream bed elevation and increase stream stability. Finally, a forested riparian buffer will be created along the newly created stream channel. The majority of the proposed work will be located within or adjacent to NYS regulated freshwater wetland SP-3.
