Project is Located:

Lansing, Tompkins County

Project Description:

The applicant, as a requirement of its existing SPDES permit, is proposing to modify its existing cooling water intake structure to minimize impacts on aquatic resources. The project involves the installation of a cylindrical wedgewire screen system on the existing cooling water intake that extends 526 feet from the shoreline. The new water intake array will consist of four pods, each with four intake screens. The disturbance to the lake bed will include the installation of 21 pipe pilings (18 inch diameter) to support the intake array and approximately four pipe pilings to support the existing intake pipe. Installation of the electrical system to provide power for the brush system to clean the screens will require the excavation of an approximately 270 foot trench (approx. 3' wide X 2' deep) in the lake bed. A temporary dock will also be installed during the period of construction that will be supported by pipe pilings. The facility is located on the eastern shore of Cayuga Lake.
