Project Description:

Proposed activities are limited to the delivery, unloading, and reloading of regulated medical waste (RMW) packaged in sealed cardboard boxes or reusable containers not exceeding 4.5 cubic ft. The facility is permitted for the transfer of up to 10 tons per day (tpd) on a weekly basis (5 day average). The maximum storage permitted on site is 10 tons. All storage will be in the existing building. A pet crematory also exists on this site.

The proposed activity is not subject to review in accordance with SHPA. The application type is exempt and/or the project involves the continuation of an existing operational activity.

Coastal Management:

This project is not located in a Coastal Management area and is not subject to the Waterfront Revitalization and Coastal Resources Act.

Project Description:

The Department has made a tentative determination to approve this application for permit modification, for the proposed addition of a new outfall 12B to discharge 134,000 gallons per year of untreated stormwater from a liquid natural gas loading station containment area. The discharge will be to groundwater at the applicant's facility located at Keyspan Gas, 605 Union Avenue, Holtsville, NY.

The discharge is located within an area designated as a sole source aquifer. The following water purveyors have been identified as having service areas located within a 3‑mile radius of the applicant's facility: Suffolk County Water Authority.

The applicant proposes to dredge 30 cy of sediment, logs/tree limbs and dead plant material from a freshwater wetland pond, place the sediment on an existing lawn area on site, and cover with 2" of clean soil. No disturbance to natural vegetation is proposed. The project is located at 30 Fresh Pond Rd., Northport, in the Town of Huntington.
