Project Description: Adirondack Park Agency Permit 2005-318 contains a condition requiring the tower height to be lowered at the time certain antennas are upgraded. Lewis County - The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYS DEC), as lead agency, has determined that the proposed Balsam Creek State Forest Herbicide Application will not have a significant adverse environmental impact. The action involves the application of herbicides to American beech on approximately 43 acres of northern hardwood forest. This herbicide application is intended to kill undesirable, low valued tree species to create conditions suitable for natural seed germination and the establishment of desirable timber species. This will be accomplished through four possible means of herbicide application. The four methods are cut stump treatment, hack and squirt, basal bark treatment and/or foliar application. These applications are recommended because they most effectively kill American beech with minimal damage to non-target species. The large amount of American beech is interfering with desirable forest regeneration. The project is located in the Lewis RA #30, Stand A-8 in the Town of Croghan, New York.
