Oswego County - The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation (NYS OPRHP), as lead agency, has determined that the proposed Fort Ontario State Historic Site - Reconstruction of Underground Utilities will not have a significant adverse environmental impact. The existing utilities at Fort Ontario State Historic Site were installed over many decades to serve a larger complex of publicly owned and occupied buildings, both in and around the fort complex. The existing utilities are inadequate, outdated and do not meet today's current code requirements for health and safety. The proposed design will restore the necessary level of service to meet the present and future demands and include the following utilities: sanitary sewer, storm sewer, water, electric, gas, and communication lines. All planning and design has been coordinated with the City of Oswego engineering department. The existing utilities will be abandoned in place to avoid ground disturbance. Where feasible, a direct drilling operation will be used to minimize ground disturbance or the utilities will be installed in previously disturbed routes. Newly disturbed areas will be monitored by the state archeologist. The project is located at 1 East Fourth Street in Oswego, New York.
