ENB - Region 2 Notices 3/23/2016

Public Notice

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYS DEC) is soliciting comments on a draft restoration plan for a small park on the north shore of Staten Island near Van Name Avenue and Van Pelt Avenue. The draft plan can be found on the NYS DEC website at: or it can be viewed, by request, through the contact listed below. Comments on the Draft Plan are due by April 30, 2016.

The draft plan is the result of a private settlement between NYS DEC and Chevron after an oil spill on the Arthur Kill in February 2006. The environmental effects of the spill ranged from shoreline oiling damage to wildlife injury. The settlement awarded NYS DEC $13,500 to be spent on restoration, replacement, or acquisition of the equivalent of the injured natural resource or ecosystem services that were lost as a result of the spill. The draft restoration plan describes a proposed salt marsh restoration coordinated by both the owner of the property, New York City Department of Parks and Recreation, and a local community group.

After the comment period on the Draft Plan, NYS DEC will be issuing and implementing a Final Restoration Plan.

Comments on the Draft Plan are due by April 30, 2016. Comments can be submitted to: Patrick Foster, NYS DEC, 625 Broadway, Albany, NY 12233, Phone: (518) 402-9502, E-mail:
