Negative Declaration

Chenango County - The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYS DEC), as lead agency, has determined that the proposed Chenango RA #12, Stands A-53, 54, 55 and 61 will not have a significant adverse environmental impact. The action involves the application of registered herbicides to undesirable woody and herbaceous plants (New York and Hay scented fern, beech, hophornbeam, musclewood and striped maple saplings) on 79 acres of State Forest to create conditions suitable for seed germination and the establishment of desirable (commercial) timber species. The abundance of these undesirable and invasive plant species present on the site are growing at a density that interferes with the development of desirable forest regeneration. Herbicide application is the most effective way to eliminate plant species that interfere with the development of desirable forest regeneration. The project is located in the Five Streams State Forest in the Town of German, New York.
