Project Description:

Replace a non-functional fish ladder with an all-aluminum trough mounted to a metal adapter welded to the sheet pile spillway at the upstream end and supported at intervals on the concrete apron downstream of the spillway, until attaching to the precast concrete inlet structure beyond the apron at the downstream end. Proposal includes dredging 155 sq. ft. of the inlet channel, and installing a temporary cofferdam to dewater the project area in order to minimize sedimentation and turbidity. This project is designed to facilitate passage and benefit migratory species of fish. The project is located at Beaver Lake Dam on Cleft Road in Mill Neck, New York.

The proposed activity is not in an area of identified archaeological sensitivity and no known registered, eligible or inventoried archaeological sites or historic structures were identified or documented for the project location. No further review in accordance with SHPA is required.

Coastal Management:

This project is not located in a Coastal Management area and is not subject to the Waterfront Revitalization and Coastal Resources Act.

Project Description:

The applicant proposes to remove an existing stone masonry culvert and headwalls. They will replace them with horizontal elliptical precast concrete pipe culvert, precast concrete headwall and precast concrete apron units. Sheet pile cofferdams will be constructed upstream and downstream of the work and dewatering performed to allow the precast units to be installed in the dry and to allow the removal of unsuitable material below the proposed structures for the 3 week duration of the work. The removal of approximately 100 cy of excavation will be performed below mean high water. Approximately 40 cy of crushed stone bedding will be placed beneath the pipe and headwall units. Silt barriers shall be employed in the stream channel upstream and downstream of the culvert and silt fences will be used to control run-off. Water from dewatering operations shall be discharged to approved temporary drainage basins. The project is located on Halsey Neck Lane in the Village of Southampton, Suffolk County.
