Wayne County - The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYS DEC), as lead agency, has determined that the proposed Dendis Sand and Gravel - Perry Road Pit will not have a significant adverse environmental impact. The action involves NYS DEC's receipt of a Mined Land Reclamation Permit application from Dendis Sand and Gravel, Inc. to open a new 44.8 acre surface sand and gravel mine within two adjoining parcels of property totaling 235.3 acres of land on the west side of Marble Road, approximately 0.3 miles south of Lyons Marengo Road. Excavation would be by a front end loader, excavator, and drag line. The proposed depth of excavation is approximately 67 feet below current ground surface and 61 feet below the average local water table elevations. Approximately 100,000 tons of sand and gravel would be mined annually, over an approximately 30 year operational life. Screening and washing of the excavated materials is proposed. Prior to the start of operations, earth berms will be constructed along the perimeter of the mining area. Final reclamation would result in creation of a 36.5 acre open water pond in an area that is currently used for agricultural production. The remaining affected land surrounding the pond will be graded to a slope no steeper than 1 vertical to 1.5 horizontal, and seeded to establish permanent vegetative cover. The project is located at 9161 Perry Road in the Town of Galen , New York.
