Schoharie County - The Schoharie County Board of Supervisors, as lead agency, has determined that the proposed Schoharie County Office Complex - Floodwalls and Floodgates will not have a significant adverse environmental impact. Schoharie County is developing plans for exterior flood protection measures around the perimeter of the Schoharie County Office Complex. The proposed project involves a series of underground and above-ground floodwalls and floodgates within the above-ground walls, as well as a re-designed public plaza. The underground portion of the project involves the installation of a concrete wall/barrier from the ground surface to a depth of 30 to 35 feet, completely encircling the perimeter of the building complex. Installation will be accomplished by "permeation grouting." The above-ground portion will consist of a low stamped concrete wall, approximately 2-3 feet in height, constructed around the historic portions of the County Office complex. Floodgates will be incorporated within the above-ground floodwall and will close off automatically upon hydrostatic pressure of floodwater. Finally, an upgraded public plaza or courtyard will be created in the center of the County complex frontage along Main Street. This area, currently in lawn with scattered trees, will be renovated to a more open and formal public plaza/space with decorative pavers and landscaped garden areas. The project is located at the Schoharie County Office Complex, 284 Main Street in the Town of Schoharie, new York.
