Tree Removal for Construction of Newcomb to Minerva Community Connector Trail, Hyslop Conservation Easement to Roosevelt Truck Trail

The project involves the removal of 1,148 trees between the Upper Hudson Woodlands Hyslop Conservation Easement and the Roosevelt Truck Trail in the Vanderwhacker Mountain Wild Forest, to allow for the construction of 3 miles of the multiple use community connector trail between Newcomb and Minerva, and located within the Vanderwhacker Mountain Wild Forest. This project is covered in the 2015 Community Connector Trail Plan and can be found on page 13. Tree cutting will be in compliance with Lands and Forests Policy # 91-2 on Cutting, Removal or Destruction of Trees and Other Vegetation on Forest Preserve Lands.

The project is located in the Towns of Newcomb and Minerva in Essex County, New York.

Control of Phragmites australis (Common Reed) in Saranac Lakes Wild Forest

The project involves the treatment of one stand (.018 acres) of Phragmites australis located in a wetland adjacent to State Route 3 and the Raquette River in the Saranac Lakes Wild Forest, Harrietstown, Franklin County, New York. The control method selected is to apply a treatment of glyphosate based herbicide in August in accordance with the "Inter-Agency Guidelines for Implementing Best Management Practices for Control of Terrestrial and Aquatic Invasive Species on Adirondack DEC Managed Lands." A combination of foliar spray and/or stem injection techniques will be utilized to administer glyphosate as a control agent for this infestation.

Project Title: Indian Brook Association, Inc.

Location: Indian Brook delta on Lake George; North of Route 9N and Beechwood Drive in the Town of Bolton, New York.

For Adirondack Park Agency: Comment Period Ends: September 2, 2015.

Project Description: The action involves the removal of approximately 20,000 cubic yards of delta sediment from a maximum area measuring approximately 800 foot by 500 foot. Mechanical excavation from access pads created from dredged materials and a haul road will be used to remove the materials to a dewatering site on tax lot 156.12-1-7 (owned by Adirondack Designers and Builders).

Kushaqua Tract Conservation Easement Revised Draft Recreation Management Plan

New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYS DEC) has completed a revised Draft Recreation Management Plan (RMP) and Negative Declaration for the Kushaqua Tract Conservation Easement. The Draft Plan has been revised to reflect comments made as part of the previous public comment period in 2014.

Major proposals in the Plan include: maintain and rehabilitate existing facilities (including brushing, raking, grading and rehabilitation of roads and bridges); designate one existing logging road as open for People with Disabilities under CP 3 permit; install informational, safety and boundary line signage; construct four new trails; construct six designated parking lots; upgrade and open for public access a total of 100 miles of existing roads, 35 miles of which will be open to limited motorized uses; motorized access will include approximately 26 miles of three-season automobile roads, 30 miles of ATV roads and trails available for access varying from one to three seasons of the year, 30 miles of roads and trails available for snowmobiling during the winter season, and approximately 0.5 miles of new automobile access for Persons with Disabilities possessing a CP-3 permit; install a universally accessible dock and boardwalk to provide for accessible fishing, paddling, boating, and wildlife viewing opportunities on Mountain Pond; construct 12 campsites, four of which will be constructed to be universally accessible; and construct and maintain gates and other barriers to prevent illegal motorized use on sections of roads that are not open to public use.

The project is located in the Towns of Brighton and Franklin in Franklin County, New York.

A public meeting will be held in the main conference room of the NYS DEC - Region 5 Office, 1115 NYS Route 86, Ray Brook on Tuesday, September 1 at 7:00 PM.
