Project Description:

Grease Masters Recycling Corp. has an existing Solid Waste Management permit to process non-petroleum oil/grease waste collected from restaurants and food processing facilities, and is currently authorized to accept up to 36,000 gallons per day (gpd). The facility separates the input material into waste water and oil/grease, which is then recycled.

They now propose to accept a new waste stream of up to 64,000 gpd of septage from residential septic tanks. The septage will be processed to remove solids, grit and sludge, which will be disposed of at a permitted off-site facility, while the remaining water will be discharged to the Nassau County sewer system. The two waste streams will be handled in completely separate processing systems. The facility is located at 100 Voice Road, Carle Place, Town of North Hempstead, Nassau County.

The applicant proposes to construct a new vinyl bulkhead approximately 198 feet long including two 15 feet long returns at the toe of the bluff and armor the structure with one row of 2,000 to 2500 pound stone (125 ton) on filter fabric seaward of bulkhead. Backfill with roughly 300 yards of clean sand from an upland source. Plant all disturbed and bare areas with American Beach Grass at 12" on center. The new structure proposed is 68 feet landward of the apparent highwater line and seaward of the Coastal Erosion Hazard Line.
