Negative Declaration

Kings County (Brooklyn) - The New York City Department of Environmental Protection (NYC DEP), as lead agency, has determined that the proposed 26th Ward WWTP Preliminary Reliability Improvements will not have a significant adverse environmental impact. The action involves a proposal by NYC DEP to make modifications to the preliminary treatment process at the 26th Ward Wastewater Treatment Plant to improve the performance and reliability of the facility. The proposed work involves rehabilitating the four existing Primary Settling Tanks (PST) and building a new, fifth, PST to add operating flexibility and reliability (although the capacity of the Plant would not be increased by adding a new PST). A new flow distribution structure would be constructed to evenly distribute and balance flows to the PSTs. The project also includes a new motor control center, interim grit building, new process air blowers, a new caustic facility, and a new permanent grit handling and sludge screening facility. The project is located at the intersection of Flatlands Avenue and Van Siclen Avenue in Brooklyn, New York.
