Draft Amendment to the Kaaterskill Wild Forest Unit Management Plan - Notice of Public Comment Period

This amendment proposes the establishment of a connector trail between the bottom and top of Kaaterskill Falls, the expansion of parking areas on Laurel House Road and Schutt Road, and the installation of anchors near the falls for use by emergency services personnel.

Comments are welcome and will be accepted by the contact person until June 5, 2015. The Draft Unit Management Plan amendment is posted on the web at: http://www.dec.ny.gov/lands/80993.html.

The Kaaterskill Wild Forest is located in the Town of Hunter, Greene County, New York.

Negative Declaration

Greene County - The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYS DEC), as lead agency, has determined that the proposed Adoption of the Elm Ridge Wild Forest Unit Management Plan Amendment will not have a significant adverse environmental impact. The action involves a proposed amendment to establish additional recreational trails in the unit to address the growth in use seen in recent years. All of the trails will be open to multiple non-motorized uses, including hiking, mountain biking, and x-country skiing. The project is located in the Elm Ridge Wild Forest in the Town of Windham, New York.
