Negative Declaration

Delaware County - The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYS DEC), as lead agency, has determined that the proposed Delaware RA #7, Stands A-34, A-35 and B-2 will not have a significant adverse environmental impact. The action involves the application of registered herbicides on 120 acres of State forest land to control targeted ferns, striped maple and beech to allow the natural regeneration of northern hardwoods already on site such as oak, black cherry and maple. The abundance of the undesirable vegetation have taken over the understory that is interfering with regeneration of desirable hardwood species. Herbicides will not be applied to the entire 120 acres, rather, they will only be applied to target vegetation. The site now varies from receiving heavy interference to no interference from target species. Herbicide application will be proportional to interference with the least amount being applied that is necessary to control the undesirable species. The project is located in the Town of Masonville, New York.
