Notice of Acceptance of Draft EIS and Public Hearing

Erie County - The City of Buffalo Planning Board, as lead agency, has accepted a Draft Environmental Impact Statement on the proposed Highland Park Project. A public hearing on the Draft EIS will be held on April 21, 2015 at 8:15 a.m. at the City of Buffalo Department of Planning, 901 City Hall, Buffalo, NY 14202. Written comments on the Draft EIS will be accepted until May 15, 2015. The Draft EIS is available from the Buffalo and Erie County Public Library, 976 Hertel Avenue, Buffalo, NY 14216 and on line at: www.city-buffalo.com.

The project envisions conversion of the former Central Park Plaza shopping center into a residential area that will create approximately 725 new housing units and a limited amount of supporting commercial space. The applicant intends to reconnect three streets, Hill Street, Wade Avenue and Chalmers Avenue, that have long been interrupted by the plaza's large footprint. The applicant also proposes to create a pedestrian friendly, mixed income development that will help unite surrounding parts of the Fillmore-Leroy neighborhood. The project will provide attractive, conveniently located new housing options to support the ongoing employment growth in nearby areas such as the Main Street corridor, the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus and the University of Buffalo South Campus.

The project is located at 129 Holden Street in the City of Buffalo, New York.

Contact: Nadine Marrero, City of Buffalo, 901 City Hall, Buffalo, NY 14202, Phone: (716) 851-5029, E-mail: nmarrero@ch.ci.buffalo.ny.us.
