Negative Declaration

Otsego County - The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYS DEC), as lead agency, has determined that the proposed Removal of Undesirable Vegetation on Otsego RA# 15, Decatur State Forest, Stands A-2, 8, 9, 17 and 24 will not have a significant adverse environmental impact. The action involves herbicide application to woody and herbaceous plants (beech, hophornbeam, striped maple and fern) on 53 acres of New York State forest to create conditions suitable for seed germination and the establishment of desirable (commercial) timber species. These undesirable plant species grow in such a density as to compete with and inhibit desirable forest regeneration. Herbicide application is the most effective way of eliminating this competing vegetation. The project is located in the Decatur State Forest on Otsego RA #15, Stands A-2, 8, 9, 17 and 24 in the Town of Decatur, New York.
