Project Description:

The Department has prepared a draft permit and has made a tentative determination to modify the existing permits to allow the installation of an 8th crematory unit which will be used alternately with the existing Unit 7(250lb.hr, BLP 1000). The 8th unit will be identical to the existing Unit 7. Both units will not be operated simultaneously. Total oxides of nitrogen (NOx) emissions from the facility will remain under 22.5 tons per year. No increase in throughput, emissions or solid waste is proposed.

State Environmental Quality Review (SEQR) Determination:

State Historic Preservation Act (SHPA) Determination:

The proposed activity is not subject to review in accordance with SHPA. The permit type is exempt or the activity is being reviewed in accordance with federal historic preservation regulations.

Coastal Management:

This project is not located in a Coastal Management area and is not subject to the Waterfront Revitalization and Coastal Resources Act.

Opportunity for Public Comment:

Project Description:

The Department has made a tentative decision to approve the application to establish Emission Reduction Credits (ERC's) as a result of the permanent shut down of the Montauk Generating Facility located at Industrial Road, Montauk, NY. This facility consisted of three (3) diesel generators which were permanently retired on May 1, 2013. The applicant chose a period of twenty four (24) consecutive months (06/01/08 to 05/31/10) to use for the ERC calculation. This 24 month period was representative of normal facility operations and can be accepted as the baseline period.

The applicant has requested 3.38 tons of oxides of nitrogen (NOx), 0.46 tons of volatile organic compounds (VOC), and 0.35 tons of Particulate Matter 2.5 microns or less (PM-2.5), and the Department has approved 3.38 tons of NOx and 0.46 tons of VOC, and 0.35 tons of PM-2.5 reductions. The application and supporting documentation are available for review at the NYSDEC Region 1 office.
