Negative Declaration

Suffolk County - The Suffolk County Water Authority (SCWA), as lead agency, has determined that the proposed SCWA Emergency Back Up Generator Plan will not have a significant adverse environmental impact. The action involves a proposal by the SCWA) to install emergency back up generators at 52 SCWA well field and pump stations. The generators will be used on an emergency basis to provide energy to SCWA pump station and well fields during power outages.

SCWA will install emergency backup generators at 14 well field and pump stations that currently do not have generators. The remaining 38 well field and pump stations will receive replacement emergency back up generators. Installation of generators at the 14 well field and pump stations currently without emergency generator back up capacity was classified as a Type I Action under the State Environmental Quality Review Act (SEQRA). Replacing generators at the remaining 38 well field and pump stations is defined as a Type II action under SEQRA.

SCWA published a notice of availability of the Plan's draft Negative Declaration on December 10, 2014 in the ENB and on December 11, 2014 in Newsday. A comment period on the draft Negative Declaration was held open until January 2, 2015. No comments were received. On January 7, 2015, SCWA issued the Negative Declaration.
