New York State Department of Transportation (NYS DOT) Schedules December 18, 2013 Public Meeting on Reconstruction of Whiteface Mountain Highway, Essex County

Wilmington Session to Outline Plans, Gather Comments on Two-Year Improvement Project

NYS DOT will host a public information meeting on December 18, 2014 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. to discuss plans to reconstruct and rehabilitate Whiteface Mountain Veterans Memorial Highway in the Town of Wilmington, Essex County.

The meeting will be in the Au Sable Room of the Whiteface Mountain Base Lodge, located at 5021 Route 86 in Wilmington, NY. NYS DOT officials will be on hand to outline project plans, and field questions from the public and collect their comments.

The highway improvement project will involve the full, eight-mile length of the Whiteface Mountain Veterans Memorial Highway, also known as NY State Route 431, from Route 86 to the top of the mountain. Construction is expected to begin in the spring, while the tolled portion of the highway is still closed for the winter. Work is expected to continue through 2015.

Notice of Acceptance of Final SEIS

Essex and Hamilton Counties - The Adirondack Park Agency (APA), as lead agency, has accepted a Final Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement on the proposed 2013 Adirondack Park State Land Classification Proposal. The Final EIS is available from the contact person listed below and on line at: www.apa.ny.gov.

The proposed action involves the classification and reclassification of State lands pursuant to Section 816 of the Adirondack Park Agency Act and the Adirondack Park State Land Master Plan. The state-owned lands affected include four parcels of land to be classified and three adjacent parcels of land to be reclassified. The Final SEIS containing more detailed maps, tables and narrative describing the proposed action is available at the Adirondack Park Agency and on the Adirondack Park Agency's website at: www.apa.ny.gov.

A Draft Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement (Draft SEIS) was released on May 22, 2013. Eight public hearings were held on the Draft SEIS and written comments were accepted through July 19, 2013. A final supplemental environmental impact statement (Final SEIS) has been prepared pursuant to 6 NYCRR 617.9 and the Adirondack Park Agency accepted the Final SEIS on December 13, 2013.

The classification proposals involve lands in the Town of Minerva and Town of Newcomb in Essex County, New York and the Town of Indian Lake in Hamilton County, New York. Detailed maps describing the proposed action are available at the Adirondack Park Agency offices and on the Adirondack Park Agency's website at www.apa.ny.gov.
