Project Description:

The Department has made a tentative decision to approve a modification of the State Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (SPDES) permit to allow relocation of the sewage treatment plant discharge from the Peconic River to groundwater via recharge beds. This treatment plant modification is in response to requirements contained in the existing SPDES Permit that was issued on June 9, 2009. The permit included more stringent water quality based effluent limits for copper, iron, lead, mercury, nickel and zinc. New effluent limits will be based upon a groundwater discharge. The sewage treatment plant is located on the Brookahven National Laboratory site in Upton NY. A draft SPDES permit with DEC proposed effluent limits and monitoring requirements is available for review at DEC Region 1 office in Stony Brook.

Cultural resource lists and map have been checked. No registered, eligible or inventoried archaeological sites or historic structures were identified at the project location. No further review in accordance with SHPA is required.

Coastal Management:

This project is not located in a Coastal Management area and is not subject to the Waterfront Revitalization and Coastal Resources Act.

Project Description:

The applicant proposes to install a temporary erosion control system in the former location of the dune eliminated by Hurricane Sandy. The system consists of a row of pentagon-shaped trap bags that are sloped on one side, vertical on the other, open on top, and connected to each other side by side.The work includes excavation of a 20 foot wide and 1 foot deep area, set up of the bags in the landward portion of the excavated area, and filling the bags with the excavated sand.

The project is located on the Atlantic Ocean Fire Island Barrier Beach, community of Robbins Rest, Town of Islip, Suffolk County.

Project Description:

The applicant proposes to construct a single family dwelling, porches, patio, garage, and swimming pool 101' from a NYSDEC regulated freshwater wetland. A sanitary system is also proposed to be installed, and an 80' non-fertilization non-disturbance buffer zone will be established landward of the freshwater wetland boundary. Clearing, grading and ground disturbance will occur within the wetland adjacent area. The proposed project is located at Midway Road in the Town of Shelter Island in Suffolk County, SCTM# 0700-023-02-027.
