Project Description:

The project consists of excavating a new pond. Approximately 38,000 cubic yards of material will be excavated. The surface area of the new pond will be approx. 1.96 acres. These excavated materials, together with additional clean material from upland sources, will be utilized to reconstruct approximately 7,000 L.F. of earthen dikes that were destroyed during Hurricane Sandy.

The project also consists of excavating to remove discarded household fixtures and farm equipment from the "dump" area, constructing three (3) new 12 inch culverts with tide gates, repair breach in earthen dike, and repair and restoration of existing earthen dikes.

The purpose of the project is to create a pond, clean out an old farm operation "dump" area, install new culverts with tide gates, repair and restore existing earthen dikes to protect planted crops and farmland from salt water intrusion.

The project is located at Driftwood Family Farm in Orient, Town of Southold, Suffolk County, NY, SCTM # 1000-19-01-18.3 and 1000-20-03-1.2.
